WASH Engineer

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • To ensure that the WATSAN services (water, sanitation, sludge treatment and solid waste management) in the camps and health centers managed by Friendship are delivered in an efficient, equitable and accountable manner, according to SPHERE and national standards and Do-No-Harm
  • To ensure that Friendships interventions in non-camp locations (host communities) within Coxs Bazar are implemented in a timely and effective manner.
  • Support and monitor FRIENDSHIPs contracted services (delivery of services and/or construction) both in camp and non-camp locations
  • Support and monitor community mobilized construction projects in FRIENDSHIPs project sites
  • Support all operation and maintenance of the WASH facilities in the camps and health centers in Coxs Bazar
  • Lead, supervise and train WASH technical team in the camps.
  • Follow up water quality in the FRIENDSHIP camps and health centers and coordinate with the relevant water, environment and health authorities.
  • Identify and report challenges or problems regarding the operation and maintenance of the WASH facilities in the FRIENDSHIP camps and health centers and come up with suggestions.
  • Ensure the right use of the water and sanitation material in the camps.
  • Facilitate in the planning of FRIENDSHIPs WASH activities both in camp and non-camp locations.
  • Work in close collaboration with the camp management, community leaders and all humanitarian actors in the camps and with the local authorities in general.
  • Work in close collaboration with the Hygiene promotion team both in camp and non-camp locations.
  • Represent FRIENDSHIP in meetings with the local authorities and international organizations, in the absence of FRIENDSHIPs Program Manager and/or upon request
  • Work under the supervision and report to the Senior Program Manager
  • Ensure that FRIENDSHIPs activities in camp and non-camp locations are properly documented.
  • Whenever needed, assist FRIENDSHIPs Senior Program Manager with budgeting, reporting, planning, development BoQs, proposal writing et cetera.
  • Participate in trainings and workshops held by FRIENDSHIP as well as relevant meetings

Educational Qualification:

  • BSc (Engineer) flexible for experienced candidate and at least 5-7 years of practical work experience in WaSH sectors and work experience in coxs bazar preferable.

Work Experience:

  • 5 to 7 year(s)

  • Capable of working geographically challenged areas
  • Capable of working under pressure and meeting deadline(s)
  • Experience in local community and within an NGO context
  • Ability to monitor work of project-hired contractors
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to cope and work under pressure.
  • Ability to manage data effectively.
  • Has strong knowledge about WASH distribution
  • Good spoken Chittagonian is essential
  • Good spoken English will be valued
